The Delmade Hydraulic Bale Handler / Bale Unroller works by unrolling the bale. Simply reverse up to the bale, clamp the bale with the hydraulic arms, remove any nett or plastic and then lower to bale to the ground and drive forward. As you drive forward the bale turns - evenly unrolling the hay/silage for cattle.
Benefits of using a Bale Unroller are that the hay/silage is fed out in a continueous line across the paddock. This spreads the cattle out when they are eating and ensures shy feeders or weaker animals aren't fighting for thier share. It also spreads out damage to the paddock across a greater area - so you don't get a big muddy trampled patch like you do around a hay ring. And means you can put the hay out in different locations across the paddock as well.

Meaning you can do everything from the safety tractor seat - especially important if the cattle are a bit stirry and you don't want be in the paddock with them.
Yes the Delmade Hydraulic Bale Handler / Unroller is suitable to use with both hay & silage bales. You can also get an optional soft arm attachment which is fitted to the fork arms. The benefit of using the soft arms is that you can also use your Unroller for transporting wrapped, large round bales in the field and tipping them on their flat ends for storage, without risk of damaging either the bale or wrapping.
The Delmade Hydraulic Bale Handler / Bale Unroller requires a minimum of 45 horsepower for operation. You do also need to ensure you have sufficent lifting capacity on the rear 3 point linkage to lift the bale safely as well.
